According to Mr. Reza Ali Asl, birding expert and guide who guided a birding tour from Poland, a species from Family Scolopacidae was observed by this group in Bandar Abbas shore, next to wharf on February, 10th, 2019 and Mr. Zbigniew Kajzer photographed and recorded it. This species was not observed and recorded in Iran before. By this record, the number of the birds of Iran reaches 553 species.

Scientific name: Limnodromus scolopaceus

English name: Long-billed Dowitcher

Class: Aves

Order: Charadriiformes

Family: Scolopacidae

Genus: Limnodromus

This species is commonly observed in:

America: North America and Canada: the most records and observations

Europe: often in west Europe

Asia: often in east Asia and Japan and Korea

However, few observations of this species has been recorded in east Europe, Central Asia and Middle East, this species is very rare for Iran and this region. Based on the report of ebrid.org, the closest record to Iran is for UAE on Jan, 25th, 2013.

The unique geographical and climate features of Iran make our country an attractive area for birding and observation of various species from different biogeographical areas. Because of the development of tourism industry and birdwatching, we are expecting to have more observations like this and the increase in the number of bird species in Iran.
